The Morring Community Foundation proudly presents the annual Berkley Grocery Gift Card Giveaway event, a heartfelt initiative designed to uplift individuals and families facing food insecurity. This event provides free grocery gift cards, enabling recipients to select fresh vegetables, fruits, and essential home goods from E. Palmer Supermarket in South Norfolk.
Now in its third year, the Berkley Grocery Gift Card initiative empowers the Berkley community and the wider Hampton Roads area by delivering crucial monetary resources to help families nourish their bodies and thrive in daily life. These pre-loaded gift cards not only assist with monthly grocery shopping but also support better financial management, allowing families to make their resources stretch further.

Together, we can prevent the Berkley area from becoming a food desert once more, ensuring that everyone has access to the nourishing food they need to live healthily and sustainably.

The Berkley community in South Norfolk has firsthand experience with the hardships of living in a food desert. The E. Palmer Supermarket has been a cornerstone in addressing these challenges, providing access to fresh produce, essential groceries, and household items. Since its launch in 2022, the Berkley Grocery Gift Card Giveaway has made a meaningful impact, helping over 600 individuals and distributing more than $25,000 in grocery gift cards. Notably, three families have received a full year’s worth of groceries through this initiative.
In 2022, Superward 7, Norfolk City Councilwoman Danica Royster launched the Berkley Challenge, calling on Hampton Roads area residents to rally behind the sustainability of a local supermarket that had ended a food desert in the Berkley neighborhood. Of course, Charlene Morring, Esq. accepted a challenge aligned with her philanthropic aspirations.
Motivated by this challenge, Attorney Charlene Morring, the principal owner of Morring Law P.L.L.C., took the lead in organizing the first Annual Berkley Supermarket Grocery Gift Card Giveaway. What started as a partnership with Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers and a crowdfunding campaign spearheaded by Brandon McCain, BAM Creations Management, Attorney Morring’s idea has turned into an anticipated annual charitable event geared towards providing free grocery gift cards to individuals and families in need across the community of Berkley and those in the surrounding areas.
